MULTAN, April 18th:Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said "Today’s spectacular display of military prowess would not only warm the hearts of all Pakistanis, but would also reflect the capacity to defend the motherland and to maintain peace and security in the region," Pakistan and its armed forces are fully committed in a fierce struggle on its western border and are continuing to retain their capability to deal with all possible threats in the region.Pakistan is standing as a bulwark against forces of extremism and militancy while bearing a very heavy cost to its economy and prosperity. Addressing participants of the military exercise Azm-e-Nou at Kherpur Tamewali (Bahawalpur) on Sunday. the Prime Minister said, "the world today finds Pakistan standing as a bulwark against forces of extremism and militancy." It is in this struggle where nation pledges to support armed forces in spirit, with its youth and its entire resources, he added. He said he was sure that the feat could be rivaled by no military in the world. He said the exercise was the epoch making professional activity of Pakistan Army which marks the culmination of a year long training process conceived and executed by it. He congratulated the participants on the commendable achievement reflecting par excellence standards of the armed forces. Gilani said Pakistan is faced with multiple challenges and opportunities as it is located at the crossroads of competing interests. As a responsible member of the comity of nations, he said, Pakistan desires peace and security both within and beyond. The national security paradigm of Pakistan evolved within the context of Pakistan’s own geography; history and culture determines the contours of national and military response, he noted. The Prime Minister said under the current global and regional environment, maintenance of peace and security is a key strategic objective of Pakistan armed forces. He underlined the need for the highest state of preparedness encompassing the full scale of capabilities as it remains the guarantor of peace and security. Gilani pointed out that Pakistan’s military strategy is based on credible minimum deterrence. "Our democratic system, economic potential, vibrant population, national unity, consensus and Pakistan armed forces all provide strategic stability against all possible threats to our great country," he added. He apprised about his recent interaction with the leaders of other nations saying he received applause and admiration for the commitment of Pakistani people and the achievements of the armed forces for the success in Swat and Waziristan.The sacrifices that the armed forces of Pakistan, the law enforcing agencies and the patriotic people of Pakistan have made to safeguard the sovereignty and independence of motherland have not gone unnoticed, he stated.He urged the world leaders to come forward and share the responsibility in helping them fight the menace of terrorism for global peace. "The leaders of international community have assured me of their support in military and other spheres to succeed in this war on terror where Pakistan is indeed a frontline state," he added. "Pakistan has refused to budge to the inimical forces and unreasonable voices of bigotry," he said. "I wish to deeply appreciate and thank our valiant soldiers for their sacrifices in the defense of Pakistan. The nation is proud of them all. Having witnessed the military capabilities and dedication, it is very reassuring for me that our integrity and security is in safe hands," he added. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir and Chief of Air Staff Rao Qamar Suleman, federal ministers and members of parliament watched the military exercise conducted in the desert of Bahawalpur.
MULTAN,April 18th:Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Sunday said,"Pakistan has suffered the maximum in terms of human and economic losses due to terrorism and violent extremism, but it has not dented the resolve of the nation and its armed forces to fight and finish the terrorism in accordance with own national interests." Ruling out aggressive purposes against any country said Pakistan forces are fully capable of defending the country.Addressing the concluding ceremony of the first phase of Azm-e-Nau III military Exercise which was underway in Bahawalpur ,Gen Kayani said the purpose to conduct the exercise is to test capabilities and professional skills of the Pakistan Army.In the wake of emerging geo-strategic scenario and rapidly changing things both inside and outside the country, Pakistan as a sovereign and independent country deemed it necessary to reactivate and demonstrate its military might to fortify confidence of the nation in its valiant armed forces. The largest ever War Games ‘Azm-e-Nau III that have been concluded today by Pakistan Armed Forces in Choalistan sector of Southern Punjab is a clear message of a proud nation standing side by side with them to the evil forces threatening their country’s ideological and geographical frontiers.More than twenty thousand troops, officers and jawans, from almost all departments of Pakistan Army took part in the exercises. Pakistan Air Force also joined Pakistan Army during the exercises. The aim of the exercises was to practise the preparedness of the forces for any conventional war threat, to work out the contemporary military planning, modern war techniques and the use of latest weapon system.It is worth mentioning here that Army Chief, General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani has declared the year 2010 as ‘The Year of Training’. Various departments of Pakistan Army like Tanks, Artillery, Anti Aircraft, Engineers, Infantry, Signals and supporting units participated in the manoeuvres.A heavy Anti Tank Battalion successfully demonstrated the dispersal manoeuvres, in which the Armed Personnel Carriers (APCs) also took part. Troops valiantly exercised their professional skills and techniques.

Serving and retired officers of the armed forces continue to dominate the top civilian set-up and their number has crossed the figure of 500. Despite the Feb 18 election mandate and indications by the army high command that men in uniform were being pulled out, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani continues with majority of political appointments made by the previous government. Following prime ministerís direction, the Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has recalled a considerable number of serving Army officers back to the barracks but hundreds of ex-servicemen continue to serve on key government posts that were offered to them by Musharraf's military regime. This is the first-ever civilian set-up to have inherited not only a record number of political appointments but is also continuing with the same. Traditionally new governments do not carry the extra-luggage and resort to termination of the contracts of political
appointments made by the previous regime. However, the incumbent regime of Yousuf Raza Gilani seems to be status quo-oriented. While the total number of political appointees runs into thousands, the number of Khakis, both serving and retired, occupying civilian posts, is more than 500. The dominant majority of these appointees fall in the category of ex-servicemen, most of them appointed without prior clearance from the GHQ. A number of serving army officers are presently holding the positions, which have been offered to the military officers traditionally. Details show that more than 50 key civilian posts are currently held by the serving or retired General or their equivalents in the Navy and Air Force; 91 by retired or serving brigadiers or equivalent; while there are hundreds of serving/retired colonels, majors and captains or their equivalent in Navy and Air Force in different civilian institutions.

MULTAN, Jan 30th:" we have a capability to fall down the drones and we have completed recently our experiments and exercises to shoot down the drones,"said federal minister for defence production Sardar Abdul Qayyum KHan Jatoi while addressing a press conference here on Saturday noon.He said that we would be forced to shoot down the drones if United states does not stop drone attacks in Pakistani territory for our sovereignty .The Minister said that Pakistan had developed an impressive capability to design and build drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), some of which are being used to spy on al Qaeda and Taliban militants and listen in on their phone calls. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) currently fields two UAV squadrons and has plans to boost the number up to six.

MUTAN: Jan 18: Pakistan Army Air Defence conducted their annual practice fire exercises at semi-desert Khudai Ranges near Muzaffargarh. Commander Army Air Defence Command, Lt Gen Ashraf Saleem visited the area and witnessed fire power demonstration of anti-aircraft guns.
The elements of Army Air Defence demonstrated their shooting skills by engaging targets at different altitudes. The precision and accuracy of Oerlikan and manual guns of various calibers was greatly appreciated. The aim of the exercise is to provide live fire experience on Air Defence guns in tactical environment and handling of weapons and equipment during firing.
Talking to the troops Lt General Ashraf Saleem, lauded the precision and agility of the gunners and said that the professional standards attained by them gives him confidence and pride that the troops are fully geared to shoulder the responsibilities of national defence designated to them. He said that morale and training plays a vital role in improving the fighting spirit of the Army and he was impressed to observe the high level of motivation and professionalism of the fighting forces.
