Chief Minister Punjab says Democracy in jeopardy

MULTAN, jan 30th: Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that future of democracy is in the hands of political parties and they should opt the way of resolving people’s problems to make the democracy strong and safe. Talking to newsmen on Saturday afternoon at the residence of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi where he offered fateha on the sad demise of Syed Faqir Hussain Hashmi, brother-in-law of Javed Hashmi. Central Senior Vice President Sar Anjam Khan, Mian Ghulam Abbas Qureshi,Ex-MNA, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan,MNA, Punjab Minister for Auqaf Haji Ehsan-uddin Qureshi and Members of Punjab Assembly were also present there. Mian Shabaz Sharif said that supremacy of the constitution and law and ensuring the speedy justice was necessary to bring a change in the society.Chief Minister said that we would have to implement on the judgement of the judiciary in letter and spirit. Shahbaz Sharif said that Mian Nawaz Sharif had clearly stated that he was very serious to abolish the 17th Amendment article 58-2b and supremacy of law and constitution is vital to strengthen the democracy. he said, “Our fight is to safe the country and we don’t eager to get the leadership. There were no problems if President Zardari had implemented Charter of Democracy (CoD) wholeheartedly.”Mian Shabaz Sharif declined to comment on the press talk of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and said “ Governor Punjab’s statement is neither commentable nor sober and he never responded him because I think he was not able discuss him.When asked whether he would take action against Chief Secretary Punjab for killing a retired colonel, Chief Minister said that he would not disappoint the people in this regard.
