MULTAN,Jan 16th:Collector customs M.B.Tahir has said that facilities of custom clearance, inspection and examination at Multan, Dera Ghazi Khn, Bahawalpur,and Rahimyarkhan airports and fool-proof measures would be taken to check the smuggling and under-invoicing. He was addressing the executive committee of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry(MCCI) chaired by Malik Asrar Ahmed awan.He said that facility of examination was provided to genuine importers for the import of machinery. He suggested that Multan chamber should form a committee to look into the avoidance of local exporters/importers of Multan dry port and it should impose penalty on such people who use the Karachi or Lahore ports neglecting the Multan.He said ,"we are trying to introduce the modern custom clearance system "CARE" which is now functioning in Karachi only Collector said that business community is honest and it is not involve in unlawful practices.Collector said that custom clearing facility was available round the clock at Multan dry port. In his welcome address Malik Asrar Ahmed awan said that Care system be started at Multan dry port to facilitate the local importers .He complained that custom valuation ratio is higher in Multan than other dry ports which attract the importers to do business with Karachi or Lahore ports. He suggested an increase in the custom staff and stern action against those who maltreat or misbehave with the importers. Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf demanded rebate on the export of leather products and stopping the harassment of the dyty payers. Khawaja Muhammad Usman Senior Vice President of MCCI also spoke on the occasion.
