No monetary emergency in Punjab, MPAs, MNA

MULTAN, Jan 31st: Local MNA Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Punjab Minister Haji EHsan-uddin Qureshi, MPAs Abdul Waheed Arain, Shahid Mehmood Khan, Aamer saeed Ansari have stated that Ch.Pervaiz Elahi had portrayed a picture of bankrupted punjab while the fact is that Punjab Government had repaid loan of Rs.4.24 billions to State Bank of Pakistan while an outstanding amount would also be returned in equal monthly installments.In their statement they said that there was no monetary emergency in the province nor the development funds were being cut.They said the Punjab government had converted its overdraft into loan by taking the SBP facility and the loan would be paid within four years. He said installments of loans were being paid regularly, adding that fiscal position of the province was very sound and the government was trying to reduce its non-development expenditures. They said there was no cutoff of development expenditures but a committee was working to cutoff non-development expenditures.Clarfying the position they said the State Bank had fixed the limit of overdraft of Punjab upto Rs 27 billions and the government was working within this limit. They said various proposals were under consideration to enhance the revenue in new budget because it was imperative to allocate more funds for welfare projects.
