P.M. Development package hailed by MCCI Chief

MULTAN, Jan 27th: Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry( MCCI) has hailed the Prime Minister's Multan Development package describing it historical and unmatchable. In a press statement issued here on Wednesday he said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani came Multan on a two-day visit, on January 23. During the visit, Prime Minister inaugurated the development projects worth Rs 10 billion He laid the foundation stone of 10 mega projects which includes six flyovers and extension of Bosan Road. He also inaugurated the extension project of the road in Chowk Nag Shah and a basic health centre at Hamid Pur Kanora. The development package for Multan, including Rs 5.924 billion worth of water supply and sewerage schemes under the master plan. Under the prime minister’s special initiative development programme, all the roads would be widened so that smooth traffic flow could be ensured for next decade. Mentioning the road projects, he said southern and northern bypasses would be constructed under the ring road plan so that inter-city traffic could not overburden the city roads.Malik ASrar Ahmed Awan said that it was our outstanding demand to upgrade the Multan airport so that wide bodied aircrafts and cargo planes could be landed here. The Multan airport was being upgraded in two phases, One phase has been completed and it would be inaugurated in a couple of months.This project costs Rs.4.57 billion.According to him Prime Minister has announced six low-cost housing schemes in Multan to benefit the poor.These housing schemes would be built in four towns of the city – Bosan, Shah Rukn-e-Alam, Mumtazabad and Shershah towns – besides in Jalalpur Pirwala and Shujabad.He said the district government or the provincial government would acquire the land, while the federal government would provide funds for development. The projects will be completed in five years, whose design and feasibility report will be prepared by the Nespak.Asrar Awan said that work on Multan-Faisalabad Motorway (M-4) project was being executed by National Highway Authority. The work on the establishment of a women’s university and a university of science and technology would start in July.Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan said that five colleges for girls and two colleges for boys and a cadet college in the city. In order to impart technical and vocational training to the youth of Multan, he said the NAVTEC would present him a comprehensive plan for the establishment of training institutes before June 30.He also hailed the decision to upgrade of the Bagh Langay Khan and the Municipal Library and refurbishment of the Qasim Bagh stadium. Gilani said a football ground and an athletics track of international standard would be constructed in the stadium.
Multan city, he said, would be made into a national heritage city on the pattern of Faiz city of Morocco. He said those who were arrested during the power looms’ strike would be set free on Sunday night by the provincial government.
He announced Multan would be made a model health district and said every Basic Health Unit (BHU) would have a doctor and the required staff and supply of medicines would be ensured. He said the Metro Cash-n-Carry store will open its branch in the city at a cost of Rs 2 billion having special storage for kinoo and mangoes. The prime minister will lay the foundation stone of the store next week.
