Strike call put off saved lawyers community from split

MULTAN,Jan 27th:President of High Court Bar Association Multan Qamar-uzzaman Butt has hailed the decision of Lawyers’ National Coordination Committee to put off the call for strike till February 14 previously set for January 28. Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday he said that NCC has saved the lawyers community from a split. Qamar-uzzaman said the strike call has not been cancelled; instead, it has been put off until February 14 and lawyers’ body will decide on the future strategy.He said that the Committee gave the strike call in favour of Chief Justice of Pakistan and against government’s unwillingness to implement the SC ruling on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Butt said that the government has assured to act upon the SC verdict on the NRO and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani made it clear that Court judgement would be implemented in letter and spirit now the Committee will meet on February 14 to review the government steps so that any new decision could be taken up in connection with the strike.He dispelled the impression that the lawyers’ call for strike has been taken back owing to opposition from lawyers’ organizations.
