Traders denounce strike call on Jan 20


MULTAN,Jan 19th:Markazi AnjumanTajiran South Punjab, Multan Tajir Ittehad , Anjuman Tajiran Cantonment,Wholesale Cloth Merchants Chungi No.14, Computers dealers Association, Wholesale Chemists and Druggists and more than a dozen other traders organisations have rejected the strike call by the Pakistan Traders Alliance and Chamber of small traders on January 20 describing it unjust and announced to keep their business however appealed to the law enforcing agencies and administration to protect the life and property of the traders. Addressing a press conference in Multan Press Club on Tuesday, Khawaja Suleman Siddiqui, Malik Nazir Ahmed Awan, Muhammad Akhtar Butt, Zain-ul-Abideen Motiwalay, Sh Ikram Shehzad, Sh,.Akram Hakim, Arif Fasih-ullah ,Riaz Shaheen Chaudhry, Soofi Abdul Rehman Bhatti, Bilal Ahmed Butt, Dr.Ghazanfar Malik, Shaikh Javed Akhtar ,Mian Fareed Qureshi, Syed Rauf Shah said that some elements were trying to disrupt the normalcy and playing their political game at the cost of traders' business. They are not loyal to the traders as they are not real representatives of the traders. They said that they did not help the traders when the Al-Haram market and hotel was demolished, Pak-gate to Khuni Burj marker was dismatled. However they demanded of the government not to increase the power and gas tariff , end the loadshedding by generating more power. They said that country cannot afford the strikes and agitation at this juncture. They said the government should have visualised the situation keeping in view the problems faced by the business community and should have done proper planning to avoid the eruption of such crisis. They said frequent eruption of crisis like sugar, electricity and now gas showed lack of planning on the part of the government and if this trend was not stopped, business, economy and people would badly suffer in the coming days. They also criticised the government’s decision to jack up Electricity and gas prices from January 1, 2010. They said instead of raising power and gas prices, the government should reduce prices of the POL products and other utilities so that the industry could flourish in the country.
