MULTAN, March 22nd: Speaker of Punjab Assembly Iqbal Ahmed Khan has said that institutions can be strengthened through democracy because dictatorship had weakened all institutions of the country and entire nation was waging a crusade against the terrorism. Talking to newsmen here today he hoped that if the real democratic forces manifested such unity, the next year would be the year of salvation from all such problems.He said that Constitutional Reforms Committee was working on the issues of 17th Amendment, Implementation of Charter of Democracy, Provincial Autonomy and other matters and their findings would soon come in the shape of a report and expressed the hope that the constitutional committee would approve the recommendations, as the forum is a neutral body despite they have political affiliations.He said that all the issues confronting the speakers during the assemblies’ session were discussed in a very congenial atmosphere. It is the beauty of the democracy that the elected representatives of people discuss issues with more understanding, he observed. He hoped that if all the coming general elections were held in time, Pakistan would emerge as one of the best democracies of the world in the years to come. He maintained that without the participation and support of the public, the allied forces in neighboring Afghanistan could not achieve all that despite having sophisticated weaponry, state-of-the-art equipment and heavily armed forces in over seven years that the Pakistani forces achieved in just few months.Commenting on the chievement of speakers conference Iqbal Ahmed Khan said that Federal government has agreed to issue official passports for Provincial deputy speakers and it had amended the passport menu, in light of recommendations approved by Speakers' conference.He said that the Conference deliberated on 13 points about the current assembly and three points about the previous assembly and averred that no sacrifice would be shunned to consolidate and cement federation of the country.Iqbal Ahmed Khan said that keeping in view great role of Sufi Saints there should be an amendment in the curriculum of education to include their teachings.He said that amendments should be also made to inculcate spirit of democracy in the curriculum. Iqbal further said that Lahore Declaration asked for the implementation of the Rights of Kasmiris and demanded of the international fraternity to play their role in line with UNO Resolutions.The Speaker said that in declaration, it has been undertaken to increase links with parliamentarians of the region and promote process of Parliamentary Diplomacy. He said that this was vital for the eradication of hunger, poverty and terrorism. In the Declaration the Speakers Conference, it resolved to make the integrity and safety of the country impregnable.
