MULTAN, March 13th:Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf Chief Executive of National Productivity Organisation (NPO)has said that NPO was introducing the Prime Minister Quality Award to make the country's product qualitative and of International standards so that these could get their space in world's market.Delivering his speech at the concluding session of a training workshop under Corporate Training programme in Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) chaired by Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan, he said that the NPO was revitalized with the sagacious productivity specialists and professional team to create productivity consciousness and to address the issues of manufacturing and service sector of Pakistan. After the approval of the Prime Minister, the legal status of NPO has been changed and the National Productivity Organization was incorporated under the Companies Ordinance in June 2006. NPO-Pakistan presently operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Industries & Production and has established research and resource institution working with the support of Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Tokyo-Japan. NPO is also working as a Liaison Office of Asian Productivity Organization (APO) which represents 20 Asian Countries with the mandate to promote productivity and quality consciousness among the public and private sector organization.Khawaja said that NPO is the only government institution which is leading the Productivity Movement in Pakistan.Formed under a Convention on April 14, 1961, Asian Productivity Organization (APO) is the world’s regional inter-governmental organization dedicated to increase productivity in member countries in Asia and Pacific through mutual cooperation, thus accelerating economic development and better standard of living of its people. The 20 member countries of the APO span the region and its work affects the lives of millions.Khawaja said that APO, parent body of National Productivity Organizations (NPOs), offers a wide range of training courses, seminars and workshops, study missions, and demonstration projects in its 20 member countries and the professionals and enterprises both from public and private sector can benefit from these programs, free of cost.In addition, the APO offers facilities to its member countries in Knowledge managemen, Green Productivity, Strengthening of Small & Medium Enterprises, Integrated Community Development. Khawaja said the general feature of APO activities is to provide practical training through a combination of; i) lectures by experts; ii) field visits to factories, farms, and facilities for observation of actual applications; and iii) country reports by participants for the sharing of experiences. APO programs are intended to be immediately useful and applicable to participants as possible. The participants are expected to create multiplier effects by disseminating their newly acquired knowledge and understanding to others in their home countries.
