SMEDA is trying to implement Southern Punjab Master Plan, Says CEO

MULTAN,March 13rd: Chief Executive of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Shahid Rasheed said ," we are negotiating with different donors and fund raising agencies for the executing the Multan Chamber's Master plan. Particularly USAID was being pursuaded for this plan.He was addressing the executive Committee member of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) chaired by Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan here last night. He admitted that Mango Pulp plant could not properly .Its machinery is lying idle.There is a dire need of Management Marketing business plan so that it would be made profit oriented and successful.He said that Government had incurred huge expenses on this project but now Government wanted to run this project with the consent and cooperation of Multan Chamber to achieve the objective.Shahid Rasheed said that Women Business Incubation Center (WBIC) is being established in Multan after Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta .It was an initiative of SMEDA being funded by Government of Pakistan to provide ‘hands-on support’ to Women Entrepreneurs (WEs) in an exclusive female oriented environment. It is the first of its kind center in Pakistan wherein, Offices, Exhibition/Display facility and Business Development Services (including training programs) would be offered to Women Entrepreneurs (WEs) under one roof. The entire effort would be focused at encouraging new business start-ups and support to existing businesses including the right environment for nurturing women owned and managed businesses to an extent that these become sustainable; more specifically, in start-up period (first five years) when they are most vulnerable. WBIC is a supportive entrepreneurial community designed to help grow small businesses. SMEDA CEO said that the center is being established for providing assistance to home-based businesses or those in earlier stages of development.He said that SMEDA was providing a unique service to facilitate SMEs by promoting business-to-business relationships. SMEDA's role is that of a matchmaker and we provide a platform for SMEs to come together and explore different areas of cooperation using SMEDA's databases and web-site. Now anyone can look for joint ventures, buy running business, form equity partnership, look for agents or distributors franchises and other business investment opportunities through this initiative.He said that SMEDA was providing technical assistance on different trades like Absorbent Cotton Alum Manufacturing Auto Bulb Manufacturing Unit Automobile Showroom & Service Workshop Baby Diapers Mfg. Business and Sector Development Services (B&SDS) department of the SMEDA is responsible to provide technical assistance to SMEs. Agribusiness Development Services of B&SDS is providing proactive technical and managerial assistance to agro SMEs in the country.In his welcome address Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan President of MCCI said that Mango Pulp Plant must be run under the supervision and monitoring of MCCI otherwise this project might be collapsed.He said that Agro-Food processing facility should utilised in a right direction with professional skill. He hoped that MCCI would get positive results from this project. Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf said that An export display centre must be established in Multan to promote the handicrafts and skill of this zone.He said that USAID and European Union and other international agencies were giving due importance to Southern Punjab and they had focussed their eye on this region.Now SMEDA should give due importance to area.Faiz Anwar Kidwai, Alamgir Chaudhry, Khawaja Muhammad Usman ,Afshan Gilani, Shamshad Jafari, Anwar Saleem Keen , Hina Naqvi and Khawaja Farooq also spoke in the meeting.
