MULTAN,Jan 30th:Pakistan Muslim League-N, PML-Q, PML-F and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have categorically said that any rise in prices of petroleum products would be unacceptable and urged the government to curtail its
expenditures and losses. In their separate statements Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Begum Tehmina Daultana and Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan ,MNAs of PML-N called upon the government to cut down its expenditures and minimize losses. They demanded abolishment of petroleum levy (PL) on petroleum products and deemed duty on high speed diesel (HSD) to provide relief to the consumers. “There is no justification of charging PL when the government is already collecting General Sales Tax (GST) on petroleum products,” parliamentarians added.Central Joint Secretary of PML-F Alhaj Arshaf Qureshi was of the view that the government should take measures to reduce losses of power distribution companies rather than increasing oil prices. “Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has become a centre of corruption and the government should take steps to end this corruption,” he remarked.PML-Q Leader and former Federal Minister for Food & Agriculture Sikandar Hayat Bosan said that the government should reduce the line losses of distribution companies that stood at Rs 120 billion. “Government should improve its fiscal management,” he said.He strongly opposed the prediction of the Ministry of Petroleum that government would be compelled to increase petrol price by Rs 9.43 per litre and diesel by Rs 9.20 per litre from February 1. MQM Leader Sheikh Karamat said that the government was appointing 6,000 officials in organisation, which requires 500 people that would destroy the departments. He demanded to end the deemed duty on High Speed Diesel (HSD) being generated for oil refineries after the elimination of the circular debt issue
